Steering rack

I have a creaking/groaning noise which appears to be coming from my steering rack when I turn right to full lock when parking my 1999 MX5 auto.
There appears to be oil in the power steering reservoir although it is not full. Do you know if the steering rack itself can be lubricated at all?

My guess would be tie rod ends - have you checked them?

Could be them. I don't think it is anything too serious coz there is no steering play and it steers straight. I will get it checked at the next service. Thanks for advice.

if it's when you hold it at absolute lock it's normal.
you arent supposed to hold the steering at full lock for more than 10secs according to the manual.
also, if the Power steering res isn't at the full mark on it's dipstick then buy some Power Steering fluid and top it up.
I think I'm using Penrite or Nulon. Something in a black bottle.
