Hi guys,

Ive just noticed today that my NA8 is making a strange, almost tyre squeel like sound, when taking off from standstill. seems to be from the rear of the car, but its no where near loud enough to be the tyres. doesnt seem to happen if i really baby it off the line.. any idea what this noise could be?

It sounds exactly like belt squeal, except it's coming from the wrong end. Sure it's from the back?

Yeah sure its coming from the back, did it with the top down. Still does it in 2nd gear aswell. Might take it to a mate and see what he thinks.

Possibly clutch?

If it:
Happens with clutch pedal depressed = Thrust bearing

Happens as the clutch pedal is released = Clutch plate lining

Either of the above would indicate a clutch replacement is in your (very) near future!

But wouldnt that sorta noise either happen all the time, or just when the clutch is depressed? this noise is only a half a second squeak, and only when moving from a dead, or almost dead stop..

Could be a rear brake dragging a bit. If possible let the car coast to a stop without using the brake then take off and see if the sound is still there.

Can't think of anything else that hasn't been mentioned already.
