Hi Everyone
I currently have an NA6 import and it seems I need a new motor. Can I replace the NA6 motor with an NA8 motor? Will I notice much difference in performance?
I live in Wollongong & work in Sydney, can anyone recommend where I can get a reconditioned motor (with warranty) installed? Furthermore, how much should I expect to pay?
Just a bit disappointed as I have spent a lot of money on this car, when I fix something, something else gives up
Thanks in advance
Patrick

yeah you can replace 1.6 with 1.8 (more torque), but go see mx5 mania - not sure how much, but they know mx5s inside out: http://www.mx5mania.com.au/

Thanks for the reply. I've had work done by MX 5 Mania before & will call them tomorrow.

Re: I need an engine NA6
In view of the earlier post this raises some questions which I perhaps will not ask. Certainly some forumite might be of definite help. A warranty is only likely to be of value if someone has actually renovated an engine or a second hand engine is going to have a short warranty. Removing engines and refitting is costly labour- no getting around it. A number of repairers will be able to give you a ball park- you need to talk to these guys and a picture will emerge. There are some Sydney based forum guys that will be able to help with advice - sometimes a PM is a good idea. Hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

Out of curiousity, what will it take to convert from the b6 to a bp motor? Is is a straight swap?
Labour costs are no issue, have everything to do it here, (brother rips out and swaps motors in cars every w/e). So manpower and tools aren't a prob. But what mechanically needs to change?
Say I bought an na8 front cut and had everything such as motor, gearbox, wiring and loom, ecu, everything. Is there anything I need to fit in my na6? Can I keep the 5speed?

Re: I need an engine NA6
i have just done this with my na6
it is easy i got the motor from mx5 plus and the couple of parts to do the change over
you use your computer and throttle bodie
everything plugs in and bolts up
took me and my old man half day to take out and day to fit and get running
first time we have done it
you could get some of the mx5 guy around for a day with beers and get it done in a day
do it

Oh snap! yeah the reason I ask is because I'm nearly pushing 260,000km's on my b6 and was thinking when it finally lets go I'd like to upgrade to a bp. This could be the way to go. Though my extractors would be useless...
