Mechanical diff oil........

Hi

Just wondering what oil people use in there mechanical diffs. Or what oil you use in your diff.

I have a stock open na6 diff atm and using castrol EPX 80W - 90

The stock open diff is nothing special/unusual in the automotive world.
The oil you should use is also depend on what abuse you put your diff through.
Normal (spirited) driving, the EPX 80W-90 should be fine as it meets the requirements that Mazda has stated.

I'm using Castrol SAF-XA SAE 80w-140 (Synthetic) in my diff and Castrol Syntrans 75W/85 (Synthetic) for the gearbox as my abuse level is a little higher.
These were recommended by the people who service my car and I'm very happy with the results.

Be warned, everyone will have their own opinion/favourites!

purely opinion.

when i used a cusco 2way in my 180sx drift car. it would clunk with redline and castrol. i even used friction modifiers and spent around $150 in oils searching for the right one. i then went to the evo forums. i also had an evo 7 around that time and asked around. they recommended penrite gear oil. think 75w90 but i think i used the 85w90 it was a while back. and as soon as i switched it out it became quiet and locked up easier and became predictable. works very well.

i personally use right now nulon 75w90 i think. it ticks the right boxes and seems to work well in the mx5. i also did a brilliant job in our subbie fixing a notchy shift in the box
