Temperamental speedo

Hi guys, not sure where I should have asked this so if it isn't in the correct subforum, please move it. Ever since I bought my NB8B the speedo has been playing up when traveling normal it jumps between the speed I am doing and zero and sometimes it actually sits at 0kmh for a few minutes. Usually happens when the car is warm.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can fix this as it isn't a nice feeling when the speedo is reading 0kmh and I'm going past a speed camera.

The car has had an aftermarket clutch installed prior to my purchase and I have read that it may have contributed to my temperamental speedo but couldn't find any fixes.

Help please. :D

taking a stab in the dark.. maybe the diff's ratio was changed but the speedo sensor was not changed?

or it could be a jdm instrument cluster?

It doesn't actually happen all the time just every now and then. And speed wise it is as accurate as my gps speed Cluster isn't the jdm one.

I can live with it but it just gets annoying at times especially when the needle starts dancing around the speedo.

Speedo sensor is attached to the gearbox right?

and considering it just had a clutch installed, the ham fisted mechanic didn't stress or break any wires??

I'm thinking more like a loose/bad connection somewhere since 90% of the time it works perfect. Will have a look next weekend to see if I spot any irregularities.

where is the tach signal in the nb's grabbed from? in an NA i believe that its from the coil pack and one sign of them failing is it dropping tach signal. Try searching for tach and coilpack and u might find something

Unlike the earlier models, the speedo sensor on NB8B 5-speeds and 6-speeds is bolted directly into the gearbox. I can't figure out from the manual exactly where it is, it seems to be towards the top about 20cm in front of the gear lever.

Removal and inspection steps from the workshop manual:

From there the sensor the wires just run straight to the back of the instrument cluster. I'd hope to find a loose connector onto the sensor before removing it, otherwise better you than me.
