Have an issue after installing a new Radiator. Bought the new radiator from James and the install went well. Prior to the install i did a flush of the system as it is a new car to me but no idea of how old the coolant was or what quality it was. Filled the radiator with new coolant and fired up the car to let the coolant settle but the fluid continued to pour out. Waited for the thurmo to open but before it did the coolant was bubbling out. Took the car for a spin and the coolant flowed out of the reservoir bottle and when the engine cooled down it sucked all the coolant out of the bottle and needed to top up the radiator as well. Only time i had this before on an other car were the radiator was blocked and the flush cleared it...? Any ideas

Sounds like your thermostat mate. Buy a new one, they are easy to swap over.

I figure it takes about a month for the cooling system to settle down again after you empty it. Total PITA.

Well before the wakefield 300 last year I put in a 52mm cooling pro radiator. I just left it idling with the cap off until air stopped coming out. I squeezed the lower radiator hose before I started it until the bubbles stopped first. Once the radiator stopped bubbling altogether even when the engine was revved I put the cap on and filled the reservoir. It's stayed pretty full and the engine has survived an awful lot of punishment in the last 6 months.

I'll give any thing a go at the moment. I was not sure if it is an air lock in the sytem. I was planning on putting a new thermo in; one that has a lower operating thermo than the factory standard. I want to use the car as a club track car and hill climbs. My last option is to replace the water pump. I'll post some pics when it's finished.

sounds like you had an air lock, but change the thermostat to be safe, you can drill a small hole in the thermostat (2mm) which will act as an air bleed, it won't affect its operation. done this many times

The water has a tortuous run through the system with lots of bends and little nooks and crannies, so it's very likely there are a few bubbles of air trapped into the system.

How about trying what Hellum did?
Sounds like a good idea to me and it may save you the cost of a new thermostat.

I did squeeze the lower hose and some bubbles came out while the car was cold. Plane to have a good crack at the week end to resolve. Does any one know what the thermo temp is? Scoured every where. I now there is a test you can do buy putting a thermometer in a container and filled with cold water and slowly add poiling water untill it opens and read the them but......time to play with that stuff i don't have
