Cams - what to get and where from?

Hey guys,
my motor is going through a refreshen and Im after some cams.

Mines going to stay n/a and its not going to be a monster motor or anything!

I have no idea when it comes to cams, what brands? what lift /duration would I be best going for?

and...where to buy from?

I have the Tighe 935c
they are 272 deg duration 8.9mm lift
they do require stand alone ECU.

The cams of choice appers to be the Tighe 805C
not sure if they require a stand alone ECU but it will not hurt.
If you reserach on this forum you may also find they are best set at 0 cam timing which means it would also save you the cost of adjustable cam gears.
unfortunately i've also heard about manyfacturing issues with some. but I have to say my own cams seem great.
I know htere are very similar cam profiles from other manufacturers which do not require stand alone ECU's however they can come with a chip which makes about 3-5 rw kw difference.

if you are in sydney.....we can hook up & you can come for a ride.

as far as the 935 goes.....it hammers & recites poetry from 5k but atm i'm still going through tuning issues

Chris,

I am running 805c's ( see mods below) and they are great with my mods, not lumpy but really deliver at 3800 rpm and then another shove in tha back at aound 5600 rpm.

They should be set at 0 deg so that save you buying cam wheels.

I paid about $1000 inc postage for new bullet cams and I think regrinds were about $55o, direct from Tighe.

Been in abot 30000 klm and no problems.

stage 2 has similar specs to the tighe 805c with some added lift

not sure if the valve seats need grinding for that.

Also try Tomei and Maruha cams - some more aggressive profiles to try. I highly recommend cams that are ground from billets and not regrinds. Also, consider conversion to solid lifters with shim under bucket setups as per TODA and others. Anything more that 260deg will start to get rather lumpy. I think lift over 10mm requires head mods and better springs - the Flyin Miata ones are excellent for an NA motor. The base circle of the cams determines how it all hangs together.

I got lucky and scored a cam set including HKS264A inlet and reground exhaust when I bought a 2nd hand motor from MX5 Plus. I can only assume they were on a natmo motor to begin with, but I can say they are also lovely with boost. Idle is a little more lumpy, but nothing too severe.

Just curious, how does one describe 'lumpy'?

Reason I am asking is that I have recently installed HKS 1.6 cams and although my idle is rock stable at 1100RPM, I am feeling a bit more vibration than stock.
