Need help please- Car won't idle when cold?

Just thought i'd ask you guys if any of you have come accross this before,

When i start my 99 NB in the morning(car is dead cold) it will start up but won't idle and just stalls. It's as if the cold start or automatic choke?? is not working??
Normally when you start it when its cold it's always started then the revs pick up and it idles, then when it warms up the idle drops to just under 1000rpm (900-950) which is normal.

I have to hold the throttle down after i start it and only until the car is warm does it idle fine. Then after that whenever i restart the car everything is fine :?

Im thinkin it's got somthing to do with cold start, automatic choke or somthing :?:

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Cheers,Mark.

Hopefully it hasn't gone again - in the above 6 page thread philz had the same problem you're having & it was one of the two coil packs - were both of yours replaced?

The thread covered a lot of ground over the month it ran until he eventually confirmed what it was. Might be some ideas in it for you. If it was an NA6 I 'd have said it was one of the two temp sensors at the rear of the head as one of those is for cold start. If it was an NA8 it could be your ECU as the same symptom eventually led to another forumite finding a bad component on their PCB. Another thing it could be is an air leak somewhere in the intake track which is magnified when cold:

"Pinching off the fuel pressure regulator helped, but it was just masking the problem, which was a small air leak in the breather pipe off the rocker cover which id managed to miss! This caused a lean run which affected the engine more when cold. Its amazing how suceptible the engine is to even the slightest leak in the induction tubing".
