Thought i would share, I have abit of a fetish for tinkering with things but trying to keep it all as OEM looking as possible.

The airbox is out of a Mondeo, its roughly 20% bigger in volume and filter area than the MX5 one, took a while searching the wreckers to find something with the inlet / outlet in roughly the right places.

Plan is to fab an adapter bracket for the AFM using a square block of aluminum (which could then easily be substituted for a different one to support a larger AFM, or none at all) , the inlet is going to be a little tricky because its a diagonal oval shape.

how is this going to be better than standard? its still going to be drawing hot air from the engine bay. Or are you still drilling a hole in the firewall?

Mondeo airboxes have a snorkel out one side to draw air from behind the passenger side guard, I presume that Dave's plan is to turn the airbox (as in the pic) and use the snorkel inlet to draw air from a firewall hole.
