NA6 some wierd new sounds and smells

My NA6 Import on cold startup now has a strong fuel smell and also sounds like a mini V8,, VMMMP VMMP VMMMP, once it warms up sounds normal again.

It also feels a lil hestiant when cold, more than usual. Occasionaly when i pull up at lights i can still smell something like unburnt fuel?? The car also feels a lil low on power. Only down low in the revs though..

The boot stinks alot when this happens , and as far as i can tell there are no leaks under the car and the engine bay has no fuel smell so it seems like its all coming out the exhaust??

I took the car to MANIA but they kinda just looked at the car and said it seems fine.

The fuel smell has only seemed to occur after a recent Track Day.

Just wondering if any of you ULTRA HELPFUL sorts have any idea on where i can start looking for a problem.

Just this morning when i tried to cold start it stuttered and fluttered, Never Stalled, but sure seemed like it was going to..
Only for a few seconds then was fine again.. well at least idling at about 1300 rpm while warming up

Could this be a caused by a dodgy coilpack or something ignition based??

I havent noticed any major misfiring during running. but in saying that, if it was not a real obvious event then maybe it is happening unnoticed

it has brand new NGK leads and plugs.. didnt fix it.. so i guess coil pack next.

Seems like loss of spark on at least one cylinder. Only 3 cylinders firing does sound a little like a V8/boxer engine.

As for unburnt or excessive fuel smell, if one cylinder is not combusting, then that will explain the fuel smell as its obviously not burning fuel in the chamber.

Eliminate simple things first and change your plugs and plug leads. Even though you got new ones, there might be a manufacturing defect in one of them. Borrow someone's leads and plugs that they know for certain are working.

May as well see if anyone has a coil-pack they can lend you before you go out and buy one (expensive).

You mentioned the smell of raw fuel, even after the engine has warmed up and is performing normally.
The usual reason for this is one of the rubber hoses from the fuel filler has perished and has some very fine cracks in it, that you may not be able to see easily.
If the fuel smell is strongest in the boot, then this is the reason.
If you remove the boot lining on the passenger side, you'll see where the fuel filler comes into the body, and off this, there are one or 2 thin rubber hoses.
These are the ones that perish.

I've read that there are some simple resistivity measurements you can do on the coil pack to check if it's within spec. All you need is a multi-meter. Check a decent workshop manual for the details -- there may be one available for download if you search.

I would check the boot as Benny suggests- it is easy to remove the liner.

Could fuel have spilt out any cracks during hard cornering at Wakefield?
Because on the way home is when I smelt it strongest.

I have a workshop manual , so I might find someone "multimeterlearned" haha, and see if that shows up something. I really hope it does.
