So, i bought this little Na6a and the guy said the Timing belt had just been changed ...
it had 101k on it and the service records show the belt changed at 98k
Hmmm, just ticked over 124k and a $120 tow home and It certainly looks like a cracked, hardened, and broken belt to me !
So, guess who is changing a Timing belt tomorrow .....

Also, will be calling the Mechanic who said he changed it and asking for him to take a look at the belt .... if he is happy to pay half, then the MTA dont have to get involved...

usually the water pump is changed at the 100k mark as well. you should do this at the same time!

not much you can really do about it is there? without receipts, it's his word versus yours. it sucks yes, but i think with this case, you'll just have to rant and suck it up.

Yea, I'm prepared to suck it up, but still its not nice ....
Now, I'm debating wether to just 'get it going' or make the run to Mania (40+ minutes) to grab 'everything'
Hmmmmmm
Cheers all

....service records show the belt changed at 98k....
If it specifically shows that the timing belt was changed, I'd also take it further if you can show that broken belt is old/perished etc. and the mechanic won't discuss rectification. Just be sure that the service record was not referring to an accessory belt.

Count yourself lucky you don't have an interferance head. My Peugeot 306 S16 had one, the guy who owned it before me lunched the engine when the belt snapped at 6,000rpm. "Order up for an XU10J4"
My belt went at 164-odd thousand and was meant to of been changed at 100k. By the look of it that was highly unlikely.

Don't belts have a date on them? The one in my Morini does. Worth a look i guess

Sorry, forgot to report back !
yea, there was a nice Sorry, but other than that ..... it was a case of 'talk to the hand'
I mentioned that the MTA would not take kindly to that attitude, and he offered half my costs ...if i showed him reciepts ...
so the long story is that this dodgy f**k keeps his license, and i paid half for the repair ....
Ahhh, life is too short ...
