Best way to patch up a micro leak in the fuel tank

Postby Jimmy » Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:07 pm

Sorry, this is not MX-5 related but I really admire the infinite knowledge base this forum holds. I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. My Sierra has an ultra small micro leak on the bottom of the tank. It's not drippling or anything, more of a dark patch where the fuel is getting through and evaporating. Without having to remove the tank and getting it welded, are there any compounds that can be applied externally to seal the leak? The hole would be less than the size of a pin head.

Cheers,
Jimmy.

This stuff is totally cool

used it before, empty the tank, pour it in, move it around, leave it to dry and you have a new eppoxi tank inside the metal. It works

Obviously the tank in your Sierra is on its last legs, and even if you fix this leak, more will develop shortly.
It's a bit like a frayed piece of clothing, once it starts to fray, it won't be long for the rest of it to fall apart.

Having even a micro leak in a fuel tank can be disasterous, as anyone walking by it with a lit cigarette could set it off, and fumes WILL make their way into the cabin.
