Hey guys,

Im having a problem with my Clubman, its a harsh grinding sound and vibration when the clutch pedal is pushed down. It started thismorning on the way to work, and seems to go away after driving the car for about 10min. It has never done this before, and I find it weird that it would happen all of a sudden. I jacked the car up and had a look around, the oil in the gearbox is fine, and there is plenty of fluid in the clutch reservoir. :?

I took a video for you guys, you can hear the grinding when I press the clutch, and when putting the car into gear.

Im thinking it might be the thrust bearing, but I dont know for sure. If anyone could offer some help or info on what might be causing this grinding that would be great.

Cheers
Ryan

I think its the throw out bearing too, my car makes the same noise only a lot quieter.

sounds like thrust bearing, but may be check the clutch slave cylinder rod is actuating sufficiently when the clutch is depressed, even though there appears to be plenty of fluid in the reservoir.

Thanks for the help guys, I will check out the slave cylinder rod when I get a spare person to push the clutch in for me. I dont think thats the problem though, it looks like im going to have to drop the box out and fix it up, this seems like a good excuse to change the clutch while im at it, and also slap in a aftermarket alloy flywheel.

I think ill order this kit, after I confirm if its the thrust bearing or not.

(yes im going to install the smaller 1.6 gear)

Well I just got off the phone with Race Brakes, I ordered myself an Xtreme HD clutch kit. I was going to get an Exedy HD kit, but I did a bit of reading and found the Xtreme HD clutch kits had alot of good reviews, and they were quite cheaper compared to the Exedy HD kit. Cost me $245 all up for the kit, and they will have it for me tomorrow.

Organic Disc and Heavy Duty Cover
Specifications : Clamp Load = 630Kg

I didnt go with the ebay clutch/flywheel kit I listed above, because I wanted a better than oem clutch, soo I have ordered just the 8lb 1.6 Fidanza flywheel. Cost me $470 delivered from USA. Soo all up everything has cost $715 which im pretty happy with, im sure ill still have to get a few other bits and pieces though (spigot bearing, clutch alignment tool, rear main engine seal, gaskets etc).

Freddys gonna hate me coz I didnt go with the 1 piece chromoly flywheel.

This is it here, I should have it in about a week.

So I can come round for a wun/green_comet take on clutch/flywheel? You sure FFG wont get jealous? Ill gladly supply food, and drinks whatever you like. Plus it would be great having someone who has done this job before to help out. FFG and Ben would be more than welcome to attend, as im really not feeling confident enough to tackle this job alone.
