Is the BP motor an interference motor?

I know (from experience unfortunately) that the B6 can lose a timing belt or break the end of the crank without smashing valves, but now that I have an NA8 in my driveway, are the BP motors the same, or are they an interference engine?

Cheers,
Rob.

1600 and 1800 are both non-interference.

Thank you, that's what I thought.

From an Ebay add for a timing belt kit:
It is VITAL to perform this service every 100,000k's on your mx5. If the belt breaks you could do signigicant damage to your engine cylinder head.

True for some cars but not the MX-5. That's Flea Bay for you.

That is for a stock engine of course.

Long duration cams, shaving the head, decking the block will change that. Then again, those sort of mods would probably entail a new belt also, and what is the betting that on an engine like that there is a teardown inside the next 100 000 kms too ...

The unfortunate part is that the seller on Ebay would definately know this yet they went and put that quote in the add  .
