$1500 to spend on performance

Hi,

I just bought a 10AE and would like to make a few changes to hopefully gain a little more power out of it. What would be the best bang for the buck for around $1500. Specific products if possible. Labour is not an issue.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

exhaust front to back......enlarged & CAI. your ABS will get in the way of the Mania type of CAI. But there must be something for the 10AE. That will prolly be more than $1500 BUT maybe you can get it 2nd hand to get that within the budget.

Other than that....it would be alignment & some serious tyres. That would be close to around $1000. specific brands is pretty hard in this case. That's of course assuming your current tyres are shot or just some ordenary type. Unfortunately I know nothing about the state your car

like STM suggested, i'd start with the basics such as a catback exhaust with an intake..

with the intakes, there are heaps out there for nb's.. look for something like the k&n typhoon - there are plenty of knock offs of the like, for just a fraction of it's price. at the end of the day, all you need is a good pod filter like a 3A, and have it enclosed to make it defect free, and to direct nice fresh cool air to it.

with the exhaust, (though a bit out of your budget), get the SMB cat back.. a few of the boys on here have it and can attest to its quality, sound and performance.. i wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't believe they make it for the 99+

Try adaptronic.

would the adaptronic be classed as stand alone?

yes

Yep but in NB, the stock ecu is still used to control the alternator, but everything else is controlled by the adaptronic.

Yes it would only be marginal. In the ideal world: intake, full exhaust, headers, adaptronic, but then you would be looking at $3k+ in mods.

If the car is stock, certainly don't waste your money on an ECU

Cold Air Intake, something like the K&N Typhoon or MonsterFlow CAI, then get into the exhaust. CAI's as mentioned will take care of the best part of $500, then you should be able to get a good cat back exhaust for the remaining $'s. After that, extractors and hi-flow cat, THEN, maybe cams...

Slowpoke's 10AE has Loch Stewart CAI, with Simota air filter, fitted by Garry Stewart, which is similar to MX5 Mania CAI.

just over 1500 got me full exhaust system (extractors, hi flow cat, cat back) and mania cold air and a slight bump in the timing.

I cant drive to save my life @ the track, but when the car had no power mods, I think I hit like 145km down OP GP straight, pretty piss poor on mybehalf...but with those mods I hit over 160km down the straight.
