My new Dodgy CAI

Postby mxfive » Sat Jul 18, 2009 7:54 pm

I just picked up a second hand Racing Beat CAI that Danny over at MX5 Plus had lying around gathering dust.

It was originally on a 1.8 so I need to adapt it to the 1.6 intake air flow meter. :D

Why is it a "dodgy" CAI at the moment, well I don't have the adaptor parts yet so I had to improvise a little with some chewing gum and bailing wire to hold it in, I just finished installing it.

But I will let the pictures tell the story:

I have to order the adaptor from MX5 Mania http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product741.htm

and the reducer http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product740.htm

and probably a couple of these http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product742.htm

I just took it for a test drive and it really makes a difference particularly over the 4000 RPM mark it also gives the engine a nice deep growl.

I just found out some more about this CAI on the racing beat website.

It appears their Dyno testing supports my findings about better performance over the 4000 RPM mark.

Their testing however was done on a 95 model and mine is a 93 model.
