my shifter has too much slack for my liking.
in neuters, it'll move (roughly measured from the top of the knob) about 2cm up and down between 3rd & 4th, as well as about 1.5cm left to right (with only gravity re-centering the shifter lever, not springieness.
is this easy to adjust out, you guys? it's really giving me the shits with my new gear knob.

It is worth checking the 4 bolts that hold the shifter mechanism in place onto the gearbox itself as these can often come loose. When I was installing my quick shift I found that these were loose and once tightened it changed the whole feel of the shift. The feel returned back to what it should have been like once they were tightened.

You will need to take the centre console out, remove the shift boots and then you will see the gearbox and shifter machanism with the 4 bolts around it.

ohhhh okay.
i was hoping it'd be that simple.
the box had been dropped out when i got the clutch replaced and i didn't think to ask about the slop in the shifter.
although, the gearbox guys would've noticed if there were loose nuts and bolts directly on top of the box itself i'd like to think. i'll have a look tomorrow.

mmm everything was nice and tight.
as a bit of an educated guess, i'd say that the section of the shift lever itself right below the ball joint is worn a little bit, allowing it to move around. i didn't want to get to far into my shifter assembly as i actually like being able to drive my car, as opposed to having it sitting at home in pieces.
ah well, it's tolerable.
