Rebuilding an NA Turbo 1600

Postby lil red rocket » Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:25 pm

A couple of Questions to maybe the race guys
I am replacing the Turbo engine in LowMiata AKA Ryan Middleton's Evil5
I have a used B6D 1600 LNC Engine to be rebuilt.
What I want to build is a reliable Turbo engine used for Street and Track
- running up to about 12 lb boost expecting about 200 RWHP

The new engine goes something like this:
Ground, Crack tested, shot peebed and titrided crank
new pistons, rods, valves, double valve springs, bearings, seals, gaskets, water pump, timing belt, ARP Head and rod bolts etc.
Port and polished head
ground cams

Question 1: will a 1800 block fit a 1600 head?
Question 2: are 1800 rods the same as 1600 rods
Question 3: Has anyone used BELFAB RACING PRODUCTS ie pistons and rods or full rebuild kit?
They look good on www.belfabracing.com and the prices is just over AUS$2000 for forged pistons and rods, springs, valves bearings and gaskets etc - WORTH A LOOK AT!!!!

No - the bore is larger, making the piston centres further apart.
lil red rocket wrote:Question 2: are 1800 rods the same as 1600 rods
Yes. They simply changed the bore, not the stroke.

Yes - Pistons, valves and valve springs. Good reports on the rods, but I built a NA motor and wanted the lightest rods I could find. Belfab rods seem to have a good rep for a turbo engine.

The water pump they sent me was wrong. The gasket kit was OK, but not as good as what I bought locally last time.

BelFab Rod and super tech pistons are the go
capable for over 250 RWKW
The Valve springs and Valve's are the ones FM sell

all these parts are in Turbo Boy and Girl
Money well worth spending
Not the Bearing are wrong get ACL race series in AUS

Also Balance all parts Crank,Pistons ECT and match weight pairs of Pistons Rods an Wrist pins

This is were the time and money goes for a Good engine

I thought the current engine in that car was getting pretty good HP?

Two threads for the same question is typically frowned upon.

Just a word of caution when fitting an EMS make sure the tuner doesn't password protect his work.

You want to have free access to your tuning maps.

It looks like I'm going down the Belfab road for pistons, rods, valves, springs and gaskets. I'll let you all know the price landed.

Who should I use locally in (Brizvegas) for Turbo / MicroTech ECU tuner - MazFix ???
Who's had a good experience?
