Hey All, now that i have the lil red thing going like i want, i'd like it to sound the part ...

One thing i miss about my bikes is that great burbling, crackling popping you get on over-run ....

Easy enough to get on the lil MX ?

at the moment 100 % stock (read: Original 1989...) exhaust ...

Cheers
J

the crackle pop....isn't that caused by a leaking excaust gasket?

My Combivan was a serioud offender of that......but it just means you car needs looking at.

Over run - unburnt fuel burning up in exhaust - rich mixture - aftermarket computer - open exhaust (no cat) - canary.

(That's my choo choo train of thought).

The only way I can think of on a stock set-up is, as Brucey stated, gut-out the catalytic converter.

I got over-run when I had a gutted cat as part of a full free flowing exhaust system.

Standard ECU.

Ask 1red5 he followed me one night on nebo....

I just took my cat out and put my race pipe in (in prep for a track day) and the crackle and pop is awesome! Love it.

Flange on my headers leaked like there was no tomorrow when I first got it, crackle and popped like all hell. I kinda liked the noise, didn't like the reasons behind it. Had it fixed very shortly after.

That means it's a leaky exhaust or running too rich etc, Definitley not a good thing

My NB8A used to snap crackle and pop on overrun with a 2.25in exhaust, Mania CAI, hi-flow metal substrate cat and 4-2-1 extractors. Used to love that sounds under brakes into a corner....

But yes, the only reason it would do it is due to running rich on the standard tune...

I have the pop now in the NC. :D
Out went the old header and first cat and in the new 4:1 header.

I know people are saying it's running rich but the exhaust pipe colour is now medium grey rather than black so that would indicate to me that it's running a bit lean.

I need to throw it on a dyno and check the output and the air/fuel ratio to find out if is OK or not.
