well i had all sorts of dramas with overheating on the track when i fitted the turbo. i managed to solve this by fitting a cooling pro radiator, and a cowl cover and cooler thermostat from track dog racing.

so since i have removed the turbo, (and especially the intercooler which blocked a lot of airflow to the rad), the cooling system now seems to be working a little TOO well. it takes a lot longer to come up to temp (just shy of half way on the gauge). it maintains this temp in stop start traffic but as soon as i get a free run , doing anything more than 70kmh for a few minutes, the gauge drops down just below 1/4.

can i do any damage? should replace the thermostat with a standard item? or just leave it as is, seeing as i'm sure the extra cooling will still be of great assistance on the track. should i go back to a standard rad?? any thoughts and advice would be welcomed.

change your thermostat & you'll be fine Fatty.........no dangers in running cold, but it does mean the engine is not running at its optimum, as for track, your cooling pro will still provide you with its benefits, coz it doesn't matter what thermostat you use, they will ALL be wide open when you're revving the nuts off it all day.

Fatty, I think it's far more serious than that. Without doubt the wisest course of action would be to swap your fancy radiator with my bog std one to create equilibrium. As I've gone turbo recently it just makes sense.

maybe change the coolant to something with a higher concentration of ethylene glycol & less water?

Running cooler = more power
Running hotter = better economy

Fatty, you've got an unblown 1600 - the choice is obvious.

If you re fit the turbo it should all be good again
