Stroker kit on a 1.6 will only get you to 1750 or so.
Get either a BP with a stroker crank (I'd get FM if my wallet was that big) or do an FE3 engine conversion.

YEAH right! I'm gonna rain on your parade;
First, is it going to be legal? There is a maximum engine capacity increase allowable.
Secondly, once you put a turbo onto it, it won't be legal in Vic (avo kit is only for a stock motor).
Thirdly, your car is worth sub $10k. To stroke, then turbo the car is going to cost more than $10K.
And that is why no one has done it.

Well obviously not with a 1.6L engine.
get a 1.8L base, 2.1L maruha.

If you are insistent on doing it, and have the coin to do it legally.
There was/is a mob in WA selling kits to put the Nissan SR20 engine into the MX5. IIRC it is not a trivial undertaking due to Nissan's design choice to build very tall motors.
Like the others, I have to ask why? Power from a properly setup turbo 1.8 is far more than you need to show any HSV crummydore how to do the business. The extra weight of the 2l, and the sheer HP it can produce would make a major brake system upgrade essential for intelligent use - let alone what the registration authorities might say.

20B turbo for something less common with awe factor if you have the need to spend the money. Otherwise yeh, a turbo 1.8 BP is more than up to the job.

Speaking of which, what is the maximum engine size you can go from stock? Is it an incrase of 10%?

Something a little outside the square and something i would love to do if I had the know-how - fit a Mazda 2.0L KF V6 with twin turbo's
Here's an N/A 2.5L KL-ZE conversion from the same family:

stick in a 323 turbo bottom end or do MX52NVs piston/rod group buy, you'll be back on the road sooner, sounds like it's making good power.

Have you seen the you-tube video of that KL-ZE? Sounds utterly sexual, and with 147kw (stock me thinks more with ITBs) it would be quickish.
Honesty its the way id much rather go than a turbo, but i don't think it would come cheap or easy!

MXR wrote:Now that looks great Mr Rotary....what car are these motors out of??...and where did u get the pic?... id love to do more research on it... Me thinks a V6 or any 3litre would be a bloody balltearer... and no need to go Turbo...plenty of torque down low, thats what i want...i think im over highly strung turbo engines now.. I guess it comes down to how much $$$ it will cost really.
Iv got the 1.8litre Gearbox in my car atm...i kept breaking the stock 5spd...u think i can get these motors to fit my current gearbox?
All you need to know about the conversion:
http://majica.net/JNR/jnr.htmBear in mind these are East-West (FWD) motor's so they are not simply 'bolt in' conversions and require a bit of fabrication and a bit to make them fit.
Good thing about the 'K' range is they are cheap and plentiful.
Pleny of cheap re-build kits in the US.

A little old this thread but ...
To the OP - MXR,
Any progress? What did you decide to do in the end?
2 litre stroker kit or rebuild a strong bottom end?
