That testing method looks like it would be brilliant for bearing races. I'm not sure what this has to do with motor oils.
I'm sure high pressure grease, or diff oil, would give an excellent score, but I sure as hell wouldn't use it to fill my motor...

if you believe the article, it means we should be using either Royal Purple, Penrite full synthetic, or Valvoline Durablend

Interesting read, but I couldn't find any mention about what temperature the the oils were at when the test was done? surely this would alter results?
specially after reading the link in this thread
http://mx5cartalk.com/phpBB-3.0.2/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=35948 and his opinion that no oil is thin enough at cold start to lubricate properly

Exactly - I bet it was done cold. Also, the test is on brand new oil - it would be more relevant to pull oil out of an engine that has done 5000km, and see if those that performed well when new still worked, or if all the special additives had broken down and disappeared.

I wouldnt be throwing away your current engine oil yet.
"Are engine oils created equal" it seems Street Commodores contacted manufacturer of testing equipment and they claim that the test equipment is for grease NOT oil. Street Commodore to their credit issued an apology and retraction. (search "bob is the oil guy" site for that one I'll give you the apology link.

Street Commodore must be edited by retards. It only took 5 minutes for this forum to see how inappropriate the testing was.

Really understanding the differences in oils I suspect eludes many of us since we are generally at the mercy of the ad men. This is a test process which does compare one to another- how relevant it might be might be questioned but it nevertheless draws a conclusion based on the same test for all. I would prefer to read a test rather than listen to someone banging on about one brand or another without any evidence or science whatsoever. For most of us if we change our oil and filter as specified it probably does not make much difference. Thanks for the post it was interesting and informative.
