Is the car actually overheating- ie water temp or is it reflected heat from the extractors?

I think you may find it's just a coincidence that the motor is overheating after fitting extractors only.
You didn't say if you fitted a full exhaust system as well. the only way the exhaust could cause overheating would be if you had a massive blockage, eg: cat converter had collapsed. Try putting your hand near the tail pipe, not on it, and feel if there is plenty of pressure when someone revs the motor if there is check out the cooling system.

Start by checking the fan/s are working, hoses haven't collapsed or are soft and sucking in, flow in the radiator and air flow through the radiator eg no blockages paper etc, coolant levels are correct, OH! and check that the overflow bottle is rising and falling when hot and cold, check your radiator cap making sure the rubbers haven't perished. If all of this is ok remove and test your thermostat.

The other thing to check is that the motor is actually getting hot, not just a incorrect reading gauge eg bad earths.

See, you can check all of the above and it will cost you SFA.

By the way can you adjust your sig and tell us where your from???

it could be something to do with the oxygen sensor, which is located in the exhaust.. ? did you refit it correctly. maybe the location of the sensor is not very good , or you damaged it during the change over, and it's giving false readings causing the engine to lean out and overheat ... ??

pretty random thought, but you never know.

I love stainless steel BBQ plates, once you get them up to temp, they hold their heat sooo well, makes shearing a steak sooo easy....




if you can read between the lines you'll get what i am on about and its the main reason most people don't like stainless exhausts

I have a set of the NPower extractors (stainless) connected to my engine unshielded and can't say I have the same problem
The concern has been in the back of my mind however but my car has been running on normal operating temps ever since they were installed

Are you loosing any fluid? Just check you heater hoses they run close to the extractors, have seen a few heater hoses let go as they get old. The extra heat from the new extractors could have killed the hose, or could have damaged one putting the extractors on.

as AB7 said, get it coated or use some exhaust wrap for the time being and see if it helps.

I know zoomzoom had the modify the head flange on his ebay extractors because the ports didn't line up at all...

You could have a particularly bad flange that is blocking the ports (acting the same as a blocked cat).

Just a thought.

I don't ever recall a set of extractors making a car engine (as in coolant temp) overheat. I think you may have damaged something else during the installation.

Does your car heat up quite quickly when you first start it from cold?
How about terrys suggestion of checking the thermostat?

To check it just chuck it in a mug of boiling water and see if it opens

Err... on second thought ignore the quick warming up thing...
'coz the thermostat is closed when you start up the car anyway...

But yes... check if the thermo opens at operating temp...
