Possible Oil Leaks

Hi ,
Been looking for a Mx5 in 1.8 L 98/99/00 models and found many have a seem to be leak under the crank pulley and build up of grease and oil on the bash tray under front of engine. Is this a thing to be concerned about or would be retified if 100 Thousand service when replacinmg the Belt / water pump / seals etc.

The front seals (cam and crank) are easily replaced during cam belt replacement. That should stop any oil leaks from that end.

Could be the remnants of spilled oil when topping up?

Or the far more likely case of spilled oil from removing the oil filter from the woefully poor factory position under the inlet manifold.
Seriously, why did Mazda put it in such a terrible place to reach?

The engine was originally designed for an east west application. In that configuration the filter is quite easy to get to.

I wonder if there'd be a market for a hard pipe remote oil filter kit, rather than one with hoses have a pair of solid pipes that sit the filter next to the intake just behind the strut top. I guess the only trick would be designing the system so that it could strew into an adaptor on the engine easily. It could even have a built in catch tray for any drips when it's being removed.
