I'm slowly loosing coolant somewhere in my car I suspect its from the heater hose.

I have new top and bottom rad hose, with T bolt clams and they seem to be fine.

I want to replace the two heater hoses that go into the fire wall (the ones you should cut to remove)

Question is: what is the size the ID of the hose? Can I just buy a roll of it and cut it to length or are they moulded in a specific shape like the rad hoses are? Anyone hose clamp them down or is the barb on the heater core too fragile for a T bolt style camp?

Bah, heaters are for wusses. You removed the air conditioning...so now remove the heater...think how much weight you will save!!!

The Heater Hoses are molded to shape.
and you have to buy them Genuine
The heater hoses are fragile but may take a T bolt clamp with out worry ????
Go see you mazda dealer fora price ( Bend over it make life easyer)

Wun, the heater hose is not the only potential hidden leak. There's another series of smaller hoses hiding beneath the inlet manifold that run from the back of the head to the oil cooler mount to the throttle body. The first of these has a bad reputation.

My car had a burnt coolant smell for years and the overflow bottle used to loose about 1/2 over 10,000km. I looked over the engine bay several times and had untold pressure leakdown tests done on the cooling system but no one could ever find any leaks. I finally tracked the leaks down to loose clamps on those small hoses. A couple of them aren't real easy to get to though.

I agree with RussellB purpose made shaped hoses ( I think they are cured on a mandrel) is the right product. Straight hoses will kink and or deform if they are trying to cope with angles. I seem to remember that you can paint a sealant on the male fittings but I cannot remember what I used and you would be best to ask one of the radiator guys for an opinion. I don't think excess clamping force is the right approach.

If it turns out you need the Heater Hoses,
Mania do them for $30 a pop (two hoses... left and right) should you discover the Mazda spare parts person less than helpful

But if you want to make sure, have a feel of the hoses themselves when they're cold, if they're leaking you'll feel the sticky residue the coolant leaves when it evaporates

Yeah I found it its some white dryed up coolant on the heater hose. Will replace both will probably use some hose clamps. Yeah I doubt I can just buy a reel of heater hose and do it quite tight bends. For now if it gets worse will just bypass the heater core and use one hose only.
