Hey Guys, having trouble getting prices for a Clutch kit from online suppliers

The only one i could find with prices was the mx5parts.co.uk and that was about $170 ... Good price ..

Will I do better from local suppliers ?

Definitely need a throwout bearing, and the little 1.6 powerhouse is starting to prove too much for the 20 year old stock clutch ..

So, i think i'll replace the lot while i'm in there .....

Ideas ?
J

clutch is heavy as. so its prolly not a good idea to ship it from the UK.

its a bit heavier than stock....but not a real lot. Mine has been going great for about 4 years. $340 plus postage I guess

Just call around your local clutch places and part stores. I'm up for a clutch very soon too.

The best price I've found so far for a 3 piece (clutch, pressure plate & bearings) Exedy clutch kit is $178. That was at a local brake place & of course parts only.

I dare you to ring up Mazda for a OEM part.

The $340 at Mania does not include labour to install the clutch.

$178 seems like a great price.

$180 for the heavy duty exedy 1.6 from Sydney Clutch and Brake Exchange
Good guys (Greek) they'll talk your ear off, we spent 45 minutes checking out what diaphram/plate combinations held 6psi off the turbo.

In the end we couldn't get the clamping force out of standard diaphrams, so he modified the exedy one and it's holding 12psi ok (slips after about 15 laps or so) $120 to modify it 8)

Well, i dont know what to say .. I rang SYdney Brake and Clutch Exchange, and although they tried to do me the 'best deal' - I'm still looking at over $250 for a stock 1.6 kit ....

Actually cheaper for me to get one from Super-cheap at this stage .....

Am awaiting a postage quote from mx5parts.co.uk

Cheers

I replaced the clutch in my 2001 with a standard clutch- the standard is Exedy ( aka Daikin) and it is the same as Mazda OEM. There are clutch suppliers and fitters in most suburbs. If you buy local you get a guarantee with the clutch. UK probably use the same clutch and forget a warranty that is workable- I would not give my money to them- Au first!. A stock clutch ( I would use Exedy) is best for a normal driver.I would only buy a well known brand of clutch. Fitting a clutch is a bugger of a job. My clutch - flywheel machined, spigot brg and new kit with 12 mth/ 20KM warranty cost me $660. If you do it yourself set aside a full day at the least.

Last time I weighed my 1.8 clutch it was around 5 kg.
I belive you will pay around ~60 british pounds to ship something about ~5 kg.
(I recenlty shipped a flywheel around 5 kg mark)

Actually 660 is a pretty good deal for a clutch install, I've been quoted around 800.

Have you used the exedy website to locate people who stock Exedy near you?

$660 installed is a great price btw!

Thanks Guys, yea, I've done one or two clutches in my time ...

Unless you have installed a heavy-duty clutch into a mini, then you wont realise how easy it is to fit one in a rear-drive car !

Also used to go through 'one or two' in my old Turbo HJ Premier ... (12 sec in street trim...3 speed holden box  )

Anyway, I'm planning a long-weekend job so i can take my time....

Got the suppliers numbers from Exedy and rang around today, best price was well over $250 - Super Cheap's Exedy is looking best at the moment .....(sub $250 . . .)

Cheers all,
J

PS - promise to take pics of the changeover as well as do a write-up to help anyone else that needs it later .... :o

my clutch job was about 18 mths ago so maybe add 10%. The clutch installer offered me a number of brands but I opted for the Exedy.
