Ebay extractors?

I came accross these. They look similar to the N*power ones, but it's hard to tell.

They don't look like they have the extra strengthening part where they join onto the flange that the other types have. They are made from 304 stainless, same as the others. No idea on the wall thickness. Will I be wasting my money on these, or will they last just as long as the other cheap brands? I have always heard these cheap stainless things develop cracks over time, but generally this is referring to turbo applications when there is a dirty turbo hanging on there as well.

My car already has a cat back system, so this should match it nicely and add a few more quicks to the car.

Hi Speedyblue. I bought mine from this supplier about four years ago and have done about 20 thou ks. Admittedly mine is a 1.6 but same design and presumably quality. Also with the low price I had mine coated inside and out by HPC. Incidently my previous mild steel ones had ones had cracked.

Hi I have the NPower ones,well made,good value for money.A friend bought the WA ones and didn't think they were as well made or as tidy around the ports.
He sold them and got the NPower ones

Hmm, mixed bag responses. So, sounds like a gamble to gain a little power. Are extractors that much more efficient than the stock NA8 system? Maybe I should upgrade the intake instead?

Just spotted these on the mania site. Are they mild steel? Bit cheaper than the N-power ones.

hrmm.. i think as a modification, extractors would have be one of the mods people would generally leave to later on, after an intake, exhaust and suspension mods, since the gain is so negligible.
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

The exhaust and suspension are already modded, so I guess I'll look at the intake next. I'll leave the extractors until everything else is the way I like it.

The ones above are a Tri-Y design. If power is your objective then get some 4-into-1 jobs. Then you might gain 5kW lol 8)

Definitely - you do get what you pay for, I actually went to see headers for my NA6 from the same ebay seller. I walked away empty handed.

I purchased a set of mild steel “Hurricane” brand 4-2-1 extractors from Liverpool Exhausts in Sydney then had them ceramic coated silver inside and out, then a 2nd coating of black on the outside. I feel this is the optimum choice for a header upgrade, (no it’s not cheep $360 for the ceramic coating alone :shock: )It took me 12 months to save up, but worth it. I then had a custom 2 ½” system with a high flow cat fitted, the pipe from the rear muffler to the tip is 2 ¼” (a reversed megaphone) this tones the exhaust note to a more acceptable level (without restricting the flow) and removes the unpleasant rumble sub note which sounds great until you have to drive for a couple of hours on the motor way at 110kmh, by then your over it! In all a 10% increase in torque :D .

Buy from a local supplier and you have some chance of customer service and warranty. Mufflers made in China are merely another eg of cheap sourcing- they may be made well and that depends on what level of quality control that is done. Not sure who is still left with local manufacturers. The best of everything in my view are made by companies who take quality control and all that goes with it seriously.

I have owned both the Ebay set linked and the N-Power set. They are geometrically identical. Same diameter primaries and secondaries. Same length, same bend radius.

The pipe-to-pipe welds are fine but the pipe to head flange welds are a bit intrusive into the port shape. The Y's are fabricated differently to the N-Power but don't have any undue restrictions.

IMO they are 80% as good as the N-Power but are about 1/2 price.

I chose to keep the N-Power set.

Well, looks like I have the info I need for when I eventually go down the extractors path. In the meantime I think I'll sort out some CAI. Probably a better $/hp rate at this stage :D

Mokesta comments are interesting. Parts designed in Aust ( or anywhere) can be copied in China in a blink. One of my bosses who ran a factory in Shanghai said that this was quite commonplace and it is almost impossible to stop the copyists. The same could apply with the ext'rs.

Firstly do a search as this topic has been covered many times.

I have a set on my car for at least 2 years (if not 3) and never had a problem with them. At a third of the price of 'pro' brand headers, they where a logical choice with cash in my pocket to spend on other go-fast bits. Never had any cracking or rusting and look a great colour. Car makes noise and the car moves so all happy here.
