Mine had 45rwkw initially. Not joking. I raced for almost a year like that.

Cleaning injectors tune-up took it up to a HUGE 48rwkw!

CAI and new but not very good exhaust brought it to 65rwkw.

Adding Jaycar DFA and dyno tune took it to 78, for one race meeting.

Slipping timing belt pulley brought it back to 65 again.

It now has 0 rwkw because it's in pieces all over the garage.

What's the factory quoted BHP for a 1.8 NA? Grab that figure and drop 30% off it for drivetrain loss, and you would be pretty darn close.

My '94 made 67.9 rwkw, dyno dynamics in shootout mode. It was totally stock and had ~120000 km on the clock. The plot is on the WA club website somewhere. The other stock NA8 was within 1 kW.
Street='94 with FFS Coldside. Sold :(
Race='97 with AVO (soon to be Absurdflow) and GT2560 <--- sod that... LS1 conversion underway!

Mine made 70rwkw exactly with about 85k km on the clock. The only mod was bumping the timing to 12deg.

My 93 Clubman dyno'd 72rwkw stock - also just read an old post of Russellb 's in which he mentioned his 94 Clubman also dyno'd 72 rwkw.

With a pod, bumped timing and an exhaust

It had made 69 previously with only the bumped timing

I have '95 NA8.
I put mine on the Dyno down at AVO in Moorabbin.
74.2 kW at 6532rpm and 414 Nm torque at 2543 rpm.
Standard engine expect timing bumped to 18 deg.

Cheers

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Wow, great stuff there.

I always wonder what's the average RWKW of each model. Maybe we can do an indicative list.
What's the standard SE & NC rwkw?

Simon's SE was standard back then and Simon's NC was stock too, these should give you a rough figure.

Actually we all forgot to mention that some MX5s had 6 speed gearboxes to the dyno operator. So when he ran a NA6 as the first car and were told that 1:1 was in 4th gear, the rest of the cars were also run in 4th gear as well.

Therefore all the MX5s with 6 speed gearboxes were run in the 'wrong' gear so the figures are only a guide if you are looking to compare apples to apples (meaning you also run in 4th gear on a Dyno Dynamics in Shootout Mode with the same tyre pressures etc).

In a perfect situation, you would run the 6 speed MX5s in 5th gear (1:1) on the dyno. 8)
