What to Rebuild to.

Hi All

Picked up a 1600 longnose yesterday and am looking at getting it rebuilt.

I am looking at the turbo route and wondering what people recommend doing when rebuilding to suit turbo?

jcs86, i'm in the same boat and have been thinking about the belfab kit

for US $1650 you get the following

·Complete Gasket Set
.Belfab Pro Rods
·Supertech Forged Pistons
1.6...78.5mm and 79mm bore 8.8:1 and 11.1 comp ratio
·Performance Rings
·Performance Wrist Pins
.HP Rods, Mains and Thrust Bearings
Std, 10, or 20 over
(You can mix the mains and rods sizes)
·Supertech Intake Valves (Black Nitrided)
·Supertech Exhaust Valves (Black Nitrided)
·Supertech Valve Spring Kit
(Springs, Titanium Retainer, and Seats)

it could be a good starting point, i'm wondering what else would be needed? also i'm not sure which way to go re the comp ratio of the pistons, 11.1 would probably be too high but 8.8 seems maybe a tad low?

I am not sure what kinda budget is needed but I guess maybe a 3k?

I think it depends which way your going, 8.8 i have been told is fine for forced induction but no good for NA and 11.1 is the otherway around...

I am still looking at options for rebuild, I may end up just going standard and look at other things down the track...

Okay $3k is a really small budget to do a strong bottom end unless you are doing the work yourself. Half the budget will be on the forged pistons and rods. The other half will be your machining costs and replacement complete gasket kit and other parts (i.e. bearings, new water pump, oil pump, head studs, etc...) depending on the condition and bore of the block you have). I have left out labour as I am not sure who is doing the work.

This means you leave your head stock which is not a big deal on a turbo B6.

It will be really tight to get it done for $3k, if you are paying someone to do the work. I would say $5k is a more realistic number unless you have free labour.

Thanks for the advice.. I may end up just rebuilding to stock until i have more funds for the full setup.
