Well it's official ..... Walbro pumps suck (or don't as the case is)

In three years the blue car has killed 3 Walbro 255 HP pumps (GSS342). Only one warranty replacement the others have range between $120-$220
I've just brought another replacement ($160) but it'll be two days before it's here.
The most annoying part is that I have only last week finised trimming the boot, now I need to strip it all out to get the roll bar off ..... Gggrrrrr

Has anyone else had problems with Walbro pumps?

you might need to go to an external pump / surge tank arrangement. i mean, you're kinda going beyond what most people require outta their pumps. i dunno.

I was always under the impression that a surge tank save you from lean out's from gulping in air when cornering, braking or accelerating on a part full tank.
I almost always run with at least half a tank and to be honest the pumps work great when working.

When I made the warranty claim I asked if it was caused by running dry and the Walbro agent claimed they could run dry for 20 minutes without damage. He also said the current supply may have caused the failure (to low) so I rewired with 4mm so I'm fairly sure that isn't the cause of the subsequent problems.

They just stop spinning, as if the brushes wear out

I've had my external Bosch fuel pump and surge tank set up for over 8 years now and it has never failed once. Something has to be said about the reliability of this set up.
