Anyone else have this problem with their short shifter. One day I felt the knob twisting slightly (clockwise-anti-clockwise). Took it apart and this is what I found. The plastic insert is much softer than the OEM shifter. Those that have the same shifter from the group buy will eventually have the same result.

Yep, same here. I machined up a brass insert to replace the plastic that had fallen apart.
Poorly made, really :(

For the next few months our workshop is being refitted, so I'm sorry no can do (and apologies for implying differently).
I must say it wasn't a direct fit, it required machinig the ball of the shift as well. It was the only way I could get the alignment right and the slider solid enough.

no worries. Was a good thought though

Are all short shifters(the plastic piece) made of poor material or are there much better ones out there?

I have the original IL Motorsports short shifter in my SP, and it has given me sterling service for around 6 years now, with no signs of looseness at all.
I guess you get what you pay for.

That sucks. I'll bet the new owner of Shazza is having similar trouble.

This kind of thing is why I'm not doing GBs anymore. Just not worth it.

don't beat yourself up over it boags. it was so cheap that i figure i got my money's worth out of it, and ive bought another el cheapo from 1red5 to replace it with. i couldn't afford the IL motorsport one at the time, so i figure it was a good stopgap solution. altho when that second el cheapo one dies i will probably end up dropping more coin on an IL motorsport one, if finances allow.

Guys,
Does anyone have a pic of the part when new? I've expressed interest in purchasing one off Fuzzlet (check your PM please mate ) and would like to know what I'll be up for in the future. Thanks in advance.

DOH!...
I was hoping I would slink away without anyone remembering it was me who set up the last one.
Yeah, I feel bad about it too. :frown:
One fix is to take it to a competent welder to fill-in the notch with weld, then cut a new, exact, notch into it.

Les, here's a photo of the shifter:

Thanks mate!
I might actually do exactly as you said as this is going into the 'spare' gearbox I am preparing for the big build 8)
