Hi guys,

as part of getting the BRG and tan back up to a decent condition, it looks like all the coolant pipes need to be replaced.... the 3 that run from the inlet manifold are all leaking at the ends(they are still using factory pipe clamps)...do you just use some straight heater pipe for these? i can't seem to find replacement aftermarkets for them anywhere?

also, what side of the fence do you stand for the other 5? rubber or silly cone? also, almost every book i have looked in and every place i go only lists and upper and lower for the main pipes, whats up with the 3rd one? more straight pipe?(sorry, i haven't had a chance to jack it up and get a good look under the motor)

cheers
MB

by pipe you mean hose?

the two bottom hoses are the same as each other. get rid of the tension clamps for hose clamps that adjusted by a screwdriver.

The 2 coolant hoses on my throttle body were leaking. The rubber had hardened up and expanded and the factory clamps couldn't squish the hose tight enough. I replaced the factory clamps with some screw ones but the hose had deteriorated to much and the clamps just chopped up the hose. I got 2 new hoses from Mazda yesterday for $19 each.

I changed some of my hoses on a previous 5 restore. I found that as I changed some hoses others would start to leak. I suggest replacing them all and as already mentioned get some adjustable hose clamps.

As for rubber or silicone. I have an silicone upper radiator hose. It leaks at both ends and I have since found out that most forum members that bought the same hoses as part of a group buy have had the same problem. I am going back to the original rubber hose.

I didn't have much luck finding non original hoses, so I ended up giving my local dealer some serious cash.

I got new coolant hose top and bottom I think NA hase 3 and NB has 2.

Very hard to find aftermarket (non Mazda) hose for NB, my Mazda dealer wanted $90 for bottom hose and $50 for the top hose

The old ones were starting to swell up when the car got hot, now its keeps its shape better.

I use T bolt clamps to hold them on no leaks or problems on the track.

Hi MB,

If your car is a NA try this site

http://www.boundville.co.uk
They have I think all of the hoses for 1.6 and 1.8.

I did a group buy earlier this year and i think everyone was happy with the quality.

I also second using screw clamps and throwing the factory to the sh*t bin.

thanks for the replies all, yes sorry i have an NA, so 3 main coolant hoses, 2 heater and 3 for the manifold. Proper hose clamps are defiantly on the cards, those pre tensioned things are shite,

so thats why they only list 2 hoses? because the two bottom ones use the same hose? this is gonna get expensive
