Trying to replace my thermostat in the car (done the radiator hose Im not sure if that has an orientation aswell)

unbolted the little thing that holds the thermostat in place...

I have two pics which way does it really go when placed in the thermostat housing? (Both ways fit) I replaced it before I think I put it in backwards before and I had heating issues, so got the large rad still had heating issues etc etc

And how do you test if it still works... like it pops open in hot water at 70 deg c? or at 100 deg c? and how do I know it poped does it make a sound?

Does the gasket itself have orientation one side is different to the other side? Or does it make no difference when you glue it in?

And is there something that Im suposed to use on the ends of the radiator hose like a glue to help seal it back to the barb like high temp glue, gasket seal or something?

bottom photo is correct. (The wax filled cylinder needs to be exposed to hot water)

And the little hole with the jiggly thing in it goes up the top. You dont use sealant on the hoses, the hose clamps stop the leaks
