Steering column air noise when turned

Postby crzymx » Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:03 pm

Whilst trying to install my alarm, and in no way tampering with the steering, i am noticing a sound thats made when i turn the wheel. It only sounds whem the direction is changed after the wheel is straight but wont sound again after that unless the wheel is straight again and rotation changed. To describe the sound i would say its like air is being expelled like a whoomf sound. Anyhelp?

Get rid of the cable and see if that fixes it. More than likely that is the problem as the shaft rotates and rubs against it

I have the same thing in my car. I only notice it at idle when I'm in the garage and turning the wheel without rolling forwards. It sounds like it's from the intake just like you describe. Never notice it while driving around though.

Yeah Yeah. Oh gosh, now i know what it is. It makes sense cause you have the same filter setup as me. And also when i was getting a mate to move it i noticed the noise was not coming from the steering column but i could figure it out. I think its because we pulled out the snorkel intake now it makes that sound. What you reckon?

mine has done it regardless of the intake fitted, but it was louder when I had the pod setup. I think it's just a result of the quick change of mixture as the power steering puts more load on the engine.
I'm nearly 100% sure it comes from the intake.
