2.25 V.S. 2.5 on an NA nb8a

Postby mmx005 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 11:03 pm

Hi guys, just wondering if my NA nb8a would gain any extra grunt from changing my 2.25in exhaust to 2.5in or is it just going to be all noise.

i currently have a full exhaust, x force extractors hi flow cat etc.

Cheers

Ben :D

In short, no...

The miniscule gains from the larger pipe will be far outweighed by the constant drone of the exhaust. Unless you want boost, then 2.25 is more than enough. Plus, if you already have a full 2.25in exhaust, why bother upgrading for now reason?

Perhaps a better alternative would be to get a high flow cat and/or muffler, if you havent already, plus take out any kinks or other obstructions in your current system.

it would be such a neglible gain (if any). you could spend the money the 2.5 system would cost and make significant improvements to other areas that would result in better power, handling, braking, etc etc.

in other words , get a quote for the 2.5 system. then investigate what other mods are available for that money. you might end up with a fuel piggyback, some sway bars, good brake pads...... see what i'm getting at? all of these things will make your car perform better, and go faster , than a new exhaust. your exhaust seems to be more than adequate already, yes?

i must admit FATTY, the 1400 odd a 2.5in zorst would go a long way towards a set of tiens and edfc even at there new inflated price.

SIRBOB, im chasing that elusive 100 or more rear wheel killerwasps and it was suggested to me that going slightly larger might give me that extra pooftienth of a kw added ontop of everything else to get me to my goal/dream.

Ive got a HI FLO cat already and everything else is mandrel bent, so nothing is real kinky.
i guess i could make my cat SUPER HI FLO by punching the guts out like someone else i know (YES YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE :P ) but i dont like the idea of the $10k+ fine i would get if i was caught.

as for the muffler, i dont know what else i could do as i dont want it to be much louder than current and after reading an artical in the tech section by adamjp on "exhaust thoughts and theory", im wondering if i should throw the standard muffler on.

IM LOST AND CONFUSED ON WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!! (some say thats nothing out of the ordinary for me)

THANK YOU for all your thoughts and info tho.

Ben

p.s thanks for the compliment sliq :D

i was in the same boat as you at one stage, i ended up selling my 2.25' system for a bargin price, and will be chasing a custom 2.5' system once the time comes, i sold the 2.25' because i was over it really, so the next one will be bigger :)
