Bugger... :|
Glad to see you're ok though!

As with new... I guess the only choice with that is dealer parts?
but be ready for the dealer markup...

Otherwise there's a few MX5 wreckers down in Vic I always keep hearing about but it never sinks in for me as I'm in Sydney, the fellow melbournites should be able to help you with that!
Your best bet is probably the specialist wreckers...
As near as good as new but none of the price...

Give James a call, he should be able to sort you out with the bits you need.

They are major structural bits so expect them to be pricey if you buy new and there's a lot of work involved to replace them so expect to pay a bit for labour unless you can get stuff done at mates rates. Dont you have insurance? It sounds like a big enough job to claim on insurance.

sh*t... Sorry to hear mate. Try the mx5 centre in Moorabin, James is a good guy. You could also try the mx5factory in ringwood. I would also get a second opinion, never hurts.

How does it drive or is it undrivable? I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix... Lesson learn't i hope...

Definetly lucky that it wasn't worse. I really hope that the damage isn't too expensive to fix...

I say this also as an 18 year old p-plater who has also done some stupid things (although no damage...touch wood) it was 100% your fault for pushing the car past its limits on questionable tyres and in the wet. If anything dropping it into second at high speeds would lock up the rear if you didn't rev match it causing oversteer by the way, you just went it too hot :frown: You've probebly learnt by now that the na8a's dont have abs, were you on the brakes when you turned in as that would explain why it didn't turn in?

Oh you did a steve, thats sad news indeed, should do DECA and track days to learn limits more room for error.

Generally the car does handle quite well, maybe get a new alignment while you are fixing it.

Nahh wheels come and go as long as no one is hurt.

except mine was oversteer rather than understeer.

if you have bent something at the front, it might be a little problematic considering that is where the steering happens. I had to replace my rear hub. Also apparently i bent one of the bolts that is connected to the control arm badly.

also, this would mean you have busted your rim aye?

excuse for new wheels then.

maybe you should spend some money on a defensive driving course, sounds like it could save you lots of money in the long run

Yakob,
Imagine that kerb was actually a run of the mill c55 Merc (let's say 05 model as they're pretty common now). You think $380 would have covered his damage?

I still know a guy I went to school with, he smashed uninsured when he was on his P's into a house. He's fine except for the $100K debt he's still paying off. He's now 33

I've lost 3 friends due to car crashes too :(

IMO ugly wheels with good tyres and insurance beats looks anyday.

Can you still insure cars under your parents name and have the ridiculous excess for under 25s?

most insurance companies will charge u insurance premiums for the youngest driver, whether or not they are the secondary driver.

and ridiculous excesses applies depending on the age bracket and sex when you're under 25

trust me mate, insurance should and MUST be #1 on the list. like wun said, wheels come and go.

i have had numerous friends who have had to fork out thousands for fixing other people's cars because they weren't insured.

paying about $1k per year is a small price if the other person's car is written off.

Seriously, at least get 3rd party insurance.

It sounds harsh, but if you don't want to/can't spend the money on insurance, you shouldn't have the car!

This is from someone that has been involved in a major accident. If I wasn't insured, I'd have been absolutely screwed.

Just my 20 cents, listen to the advice given above - get some insurance to at least protect the property of others.
