Hey lads,

During DECA I found that on hard launches the clutch pedal didn't seem to be coming up all the way and I could smell slipping clutch and it didn't seem to like getting hot, so i've decided to upgrade the clutch before the next track day in 2 weeks.

Car is making 135kw @ rear wheels and will be end up with around 165-170kw @ wheels in the next 6 months. It is only a weekender, dríven about twice a month for rare street use and mostly light track days.

What clutch should I be looking to put in? I would still like to be fairly well mannered on the street but without having to worry about slip when giving it some stick! Is it worth fitting a lightened flywheel while i'm at it or not?

Any help would be great as I have no idea what clutch I should be looking at!

Exedy 4 puck ceramic sprung button clutch. It appears to be liveable on the street. If your aiming for BIG KW there other things on the car that are compromising. MSG ASE05 or CT, as I believe they have changed out clutches not to long ago.

When my NA was turbo (200rwkw), i used the exedy clutch blackster has described. Out on the track (and once moving) it was fantasic - never had any issues with slipping...infact the weakest point of my driveline was my diff...When I first fitted the clutch, it was rough as all hell when manouvering the car around, but after around 1000kms it softened up a little bit. I did find it to have a VERY small amount of pedal movement before the clutch was engaged

Sounds pretty good Fuzz, how close to original feel would you compare it to? ie the OEM clutch compared to the Exedy? I would have thought 4-puck would be pretty rough to use?

The car will never see more than 170rwkw whilst I have it, so doesn't need to be super hardcore.

I'd be happy with similar pedal feel or a bit heavier with similar bite that can withstand some solid driving.

Also, where is the best/cheapest place to purchase this clutch kit from?

I spoke to the exedy rep at autosalon and he seemed to think that the heavy duty exedy clutch should do the job. I basically asked what could handle 150rwkw and still be very streetable.

I ran the Exedy full face Kevlar clutch. Worked great with no slippage issues at all at ~160rwkw. Unlike Fuzz I found 5th gear to be the weakpoint in my drivetrain.
Never had any issues with slippage at all, even with R spec rubber on. Stood up to donuts and burnouts in 2nd gear without a problem. It did have a fairly heavy pedal though.

You have summed it up pretty well there. It was a fairly heavy clutch, but i could live with that though

Personally I have gone through every single version of the Exedy clutches (from the normal HD to the HDCB and whatever else they have) over the years.

Next time around, once the spare BP motor is built, it will be the OS Giken twin plate for me.

No more messing about.

I know what you are saying there. Once the SR20 conversion is complete I will be going a twin plate for sure.

Jim Berry up here knocked mine together and after the stuff up of the first attempt (spiggot bearing not put in properly) and being fixed the second time, she's been great!

Pedal effort is almost the same, bite is still huge. ~ $950 for the clutch though.......but only about 2500 - 3000km on it since it went in. I requested it be built to suit up to 200rwkw but I won't be shooting for this number anymore. Stock turbo, 440cc injectors and a re-tune, that's it.

Same, and I had voice my lack of faith in the product to a number of thier representatives - includeing the guys at two different autosalon rounds.

I'd also say Jim Berry is the man for a clutch for ANY application. My onyl tip for dealing with Jim is to make sure you have a spare hour when you call him
