Hello again.
Well as it happens i am now unable to drive my 5 due to a shoulder injury as a result of slave labor accident at work.

It appears i am getting a shoulder reconstruction and will be unable to drive for a good 3-4months. Due to this damming news i have decided to design and fiberglass up a cold air induction air box for the 5. I have reached the point where exact calculations are required for the designing process.

!!ANY INFO!!! no matter how small regarding flow charts/readings, vac pressure readings, CFM readings etc. for a NA8 would be great.

From memory Matty is the only active person on this forum that's taken those kind of measurements, & then only on his NA6 <http://autospeed.com/A_110680/cms/article.html>.

However, I vaguely recall someone in the last few months thinking aloud on the forum about either taking more or doing them for another model MX5. I think this was the post: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=27602 (see p2 in particular)

Like many I have the Mania CF CAI tube, Simota pod air filter, & OEM MAF (until Wolf is fitted). However, I replaced my NA8 crosspipe with an NB8A crosspipe which removes the compressed 90% bend above the top radiator hose just prior to the TB.

Or wait for one to come up on ebay, however the one in June was the first Clubman sticker I'd seen on ebay in about 6 years.

That info was a real help.

After a little more research i now know that, to get the best result for my project i am required to take the measurements from my engine. should be FUN!
There are 3 options on taking these readings.
1. change/modify stock ECU.
2. build digital I/O board and add a few sensors (basic PLC setup) displayed on incar monitor
3. fit vacc, press & flow gauges to dash and take the readings manually

I am thinking more along line no.2
Then i have interactive programing and data logging for on the fly readings.

I will keep you posted with how the project is coming along.

The logger will have all the channels you need. Just think of a sensor and log it! The engine monitor has the interface and alarms but you don't need it for just logging.

Sorry for not updating sooner.

Well there has been some progress in to the making of the unit to read the engines ecu, but it has come to a dead halt as i need to buy an oscilloscope which costs around $1000. At this point in time while on work cover wages it is a little too pricey.

I did end up going with the digital I/O board (basic plc set up) hence the oscilloscope.
The main IC i have used for the project is the 18F4550 with USB Interface built in which makes it a little easier to talk to the chip via laptop, rather than a dedicated IC chip and circuits relaying the info.

I am designing the I/O board and wiring diagram to plug in series with any NA standard wiring harness.
At the moment i am only programing I/O ports to suite standard NA sensors/ECU but have the ability to allow expandable I/O circuits which enables me to add any other sensor i like, such as gear box oil temp, exhaust pressure/temp, diff oil temp, electronic boost gauge etc.........(anything really) but some sensors can cost about $1000 each so depending what the sensors cost, will govern which one gets added first.

once i have the oscilloscope i will reopen this forum and should have an update on the project.
