I Have a New Engine

well, where do i start, drove into the mx5 factory today for 175,000km service and to get my timing belt and cam seals done, as i drove up the drive i heard a clunk (not good i thought to my self), i drove in and we hoisted the car up.
we looked through but could not find anything, we took off all the covers to check the crank shaft nose and there was the problem, it was slightly bent and was out of shape and the groove at the top was about 5mm wider than normal. we went to check it, wiggled it around a bit and it cracked
here are some pics.

but anyway, dick found me an import b6 long nose engine with 50,000k's on it and he is doing the whole thing for $2255.
i was going to get the engine rebuilt next year anyway so i guess this was kind of a good thing.
this is the engine.

cheers,
cheyne

sh*t! Not a cheap experience... Thats pretty crazy that is cracked

And that keyway is massivly deformed. Its good that its all being sorted out though. Is the engine to stock specs or are you doing something special?

Yeah, mine was deformed similarly to that, although not quite as much, mine was more like 1-2 mm out. Gladly mine wasn't bent or cracked though. You didn't notice a wobble of any kind did you? And you had no performance problems either. Hmm, I guess its a good warning to all NA6 owners that this problem is out there and the typical sympton dont always apply.

Wow that's a quick turnaround! Good on Dick for doing it at such short notice.
Bonus: Don't have to fork out for the 175k service.

That is good timing. At least you weren't stuck in the middle of nowhere needing a tow.

get it back tomorrow, apprently it is a bit more powerful than the old one according to dick, not by much but it is noticable.
i was there today and it was all done nut they still need to bleed the brakes and clutch, adjust handbrake, wash and detail it, and oil the gearbox.
i cant wait

it will be like a new car.
and in a month or 2 a full fujitsubo exhaust setup
