Diagnosis please?

Postby hops3010 » Mon Oct 06, 2008 2:32 pm

Hi everyone

Wondering if anybody can diagnose what might be wrong with my NA. Its a bit sluggish and lacks guts when cold but its fine once its warmed up. Is this a fault on something, eg choke, or is it just to be expected?

BTW - this time I did try a search but couldn't find what i was looking for...

Depends just how sluggish ... but I'd hope you weren't revving it out or trying to put it under much load until she was warmed up anyway. :?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yeah probably. Its not that sluggish, but its noticeable for about 5 mins. I won't worry about it then, I'll just be gentle with her till she's nice and warm :)

AFM, air temp or coolant temperature sensor. I don't think it's the O2 sensor though...

yeah i've heard that a faulty o2 sensor can cause issues like this. it seems counter-intuitive to me tho, coz the o2 sensor takes a while to warm up anyway, so is often not even referenced by the ecu during the warm up period. (ecu just runs off open loop fuel maps). but there ya go.... strange one. i'd also be checking the other sensors sabretooth mentioned as they make more sense to me.

One more curve ball...

I would check that your IAC (Idle Air control) valve is operating correctly.
Primarily check the little hose underneath your throttle body as well.

Well thanks for all the advice... I think! Given that some of you say its buggered and I can't understand what the others are on about!!

Its not a biggie but the first time I noticed the problem was the morning after its last service when it was tuned. And its absolutely fine once the car has warmed up.
