Motul Engine Clean

Postby SuperMazdaKart » Sat Oct 04, 2008 9:20 pm

Just bought a can of the stuff. Certainly not cheap being $30 AUD for a 300ml can.. Will use it tommorrow for a thorough oil change.

Drain old oil, new no name cheap generic filter on, new clean cheap oil Gulf Western 20w50 dino, Motul Engine Clean in, idle for 30 minutes & change oil/filter again using good Ryco filter & Motul Turbolight 4100 10w40 oil.

Will see how it goes. Being a Motul product I expect it to work well.. Product contains naphta (Petroleum) hydrotreated. Can doesn't say what else is in it. Should be good to clean out the oil lines in the turbo as well :)

Hopefully this'll totally solve some slight HLA ticks on a cold engine start which has gradually been disappearing since last oil change when I added Nulon's Lifter Free to the oil.

all these engine cleaning products are a waste of money...
heres a tip: put about 100ml of automatic transmission fluid(ATF is a very good detergent) IN the engine about 100km before changing ur oil...every oil change...
dont rev the engine too much for those 100km. change oil/filter....ull notice a cleaner smoother engine.

all the products u buy usually contain some sort of petroleum like diesel...all does the same thing!

has worked a treat every time! :)

I got mine for free when Motul had them gratis when you buy some other Motul product . This was a while ago though. I think I got a hat too somewhere.

I know opinions are divided on the effectiveness of additives, but I spend about $50-$70 per annum on various fuel and engine additives from Lucas, Nulon, Wynn's; and if they work, then it's well worth the money; if they don't *shrugs shoulders* it's only $60.

i use that nulon stuff you put in ur car before changing ur oil.. warm it up, let it run in the car for about 5 minutes then drain the oil.. it seems to make the car run a bit smoother.. but i hear you're not supposed to use it every oil change otherwise it'll the motor out.
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

I am guessing this Motul Engine Clean is some kind of engine flush?

My understanding is that you poor the product into your existing where it loosens it up (ie makes it less viscous) so that more of the old dirty oil is drained when you undo the sump plug (effectively flushing your engine).

Seems a bit excessive that your going to the added effort of cheap oil and oil filter too but I think the majority of your efforts will go to effectively loosening and draining the new cheap oil rather than the old carbonated oil that was in there before.

Tell us how it goes

Naptha is a byproduce from heating coal to make coke, and is very carcinogenic. It is the main ingredient mothballs. (the stuff your grandmother would put in with her linen). Let us know how it works, should be interesting.

postponed the oil change since i got two cruises coming up in the next two weekends..

i probably won't bother trying such a procedure more then once. if the stuff works in cleaning out the engine then the engine shouldn't get dirty enough again to need it unless you neglect the oilchanges too much.

interestingly i tried the nulon equivalent in the NA6 & it did actually work (I think). afterwards the engine wouldn't idle properly & kept stalling. adjusted the throttle cable & alls good again. next time i used it couldn't tell the difference from before & after.
