I bought a MegaSquirt for my 94 Mx5 (built in 93), i have installed my Map line and plugged it into the wiring loom, it idels, but i cant connect it to megatune, ive used a usb to serial converter from jaycar as well as the one from diyautotune, i still cant connect to it. also after i close megatune and open it again it comes up with an error message.

Controller code version does not match signature in MSnS-extra.ini.
(See audit.log for where the above file was found.)

Any help getting my car to run on the MS would be very much appreciated.

Is the comm-port set correctly as per installation instructions? ie.
- connect USB cable,
- turn key to "on",
- run MegaTune and choose the project you are using
- go to "communications" on the top margin menu (toward the right of screen),
- keep going down the list of comm-ports and keep clicking "test" until you get an acceptance message.

Send saboteur or sabretooth a PM as they know alot more about it than I do.

The manual warns of possible errors when using serial emulators.
I use a Gold-X USB to Serial Converter (GXMU-1200) with Windows XP and have had no problems.

Thank you for your help, I tried it on a laptop, then got desperate and took a desktop with a 9pin serial outside and tried to connect it with that, neither worked that's when I made this post, now I borrowed another laptop and finally got it to connect, it worked first time.

For anyone else has this issue, (my laptop works now) here is how to fix it.

What that error means is that you are using the wrong com port. Are you using a real serial port, or a USB adapter?

Here is what you'll need to do if you have a USB adapter. To find out what port the USB adapter is using, first make sure the adapter is plugged in and its light is on. Then right-click My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager at the left, then scroll down the right hand column until you find the entry that says "Ports (COM & LPT)". Click the plus sign next to it. You should see an entry that looks like "USB Serial Port (COMx)" where x is the number of the port it has grabbed.

If it's grabbed a port number higher than 4, I recommend changing it to a lower number. Double-click the USB Serial Port item. Then select the Port Settings tab at the top of the box that pops up and click the button marked Advanced. You will see a new screen where you can specify the COM port number; set it to a number less than 5 that is not already in use. Then click OK to close that screen, and OK to close the Properties box. This will set your USB adapter to a lower port number.

If you are using a serial port, then you'll pretty much follow those exact directions.

If that still doesn't work, try using the Portchecl.exe program. To do this check, you'll need the program portcheck.exe, which comes with most MegaTune versions, including the one on the DIYAutotune.com website. You'll find it in the MegaTune2.25 folder. Power up the Megasquirt and connect it to your PC. You do not need to open the case and should not put the boot jumper in place for this test. Close MegaTune if it's running, and run the portcheck.exe program. When this program starts, it will scan the available COM ports.

If the port it's scanning is not connected to a working Megasquirt, or it's on the wrong speed, it'll say "No connection made." If it's on the right port and right speed, it will give you the version of the Megasquirt firmware that's on the Megasquirt. Note that some Megasquirt firmware versions will look like earlier versions with this test - for example, 029V identifies it as 029Q. This is for backwards compatibility.

If you get a port where it replies with "S" or something else that doesn't look like a firmware version, this port is probably a fake COM port that echos back everything that's typed.
