okay,

searching around the web and this forum, i can't find much relating to cold air intakes for the NB8B.

im looking for something like the autoexe cai ie. the pod/filter on the intake side(left) of the engine and not on the right side.

like this:


BUT i dont want to pay almost AU$1k for some engine bling (the cf) and that offers minimal performance gains.

so, has anyone done or come across this type of set-up being sold at a more reasonable price or know of a DIY solution to this.?

any help is appreciated.

but for $300 it is a bargain.

The CF is pretty and a nicely made item, but I would be concerned about any undesired effects from the super-short inlet tract.
Plus would the extra length of wiring for the MAF (which is now positioned on the other side of the engine bay) cause any difference in reading at the ECU?

I used to have a picture of a very short homemade intake
It was made by a forum member at a Dodgy Day, was white plastic with a 90 degree bend

i have a home made version like this i like it. has great throttle response and top end power seems to go alright but mid range is rather sluggy... id look into a system that locates the filtter in behind the fog light then remove the fog light and make a ram air intake. with a onger intake length

this is what i will be doing in the not so distant future to replace my dunny pipe home jobby

i had my eye on that Gruppe M one but couldn't justify paying $300 for an air intake when you can get one that does the same job for less than half.. it does look good though..

why not buy the normal intakes and buy this extra: click

do keep me updated with your diy, i'm very very interested. but removing a foglight in place of a ram air might look a bit interesting

$300 is steep but much better than $1k for a new one.

not too fond of that window. would hate for hwy patrol to look at my engine and see a nice pod filter through that window.


regarding the MAF wiring, would the original length be long enough to be relocated or will i have to get a longer piece since 1red5 did make a point of it.

It wouldn't matter

As far as I know in QLD you have to have your filters in a sealed box

Sliq would that box be considered sealed enough?
or that Autoexe look alike one

It depends on the cop, you may or may not get done for it.

I was tempted to buy this intake, such good quality.
And being made by GruppeM, I'm sure they would know what they are doing, to extract the most power and response.

yea, but you know the cops..unpredictable.
read on some forum that they lifted/pried open an aluminium intake box to discover a pod filter and then defected it.

it is legal to have a pod filter tho
