1991

if you have a look in miata.net its all explained. The easy way to tell is the pulley......its different.
can't remember which is which but one has more holes than the other. I have one fitted to my own car. I will have a look on the way out.

and don't forget. The people from the US have a real weird way of naming their year models.

what we call a 1991 model......for some reason they call it a 1992.....

however if you get a 1992.......its a safe bet.

not sure what the going price is......$500 plus your mechnics cut.....proly $800-$1000....????

Short nose crank has 4 holes, long nose has eight. Thats the simple way of telling.

4 on my 90. Although I have no problems what so ever, its just the long nose is probebly a safer bet

absolutley My original 1989 engine had a close to perfect keyway after 192k Km. It got changed regardles. & now runs nicely in an turbo.

but if you are getting a new donk. may as well make it a 1991 or onwards

why not a NB6 engine if you can afford it. will get a solid lifter head, no more HLA ticking :)

or how bout a good B6T engine for their strengthened rods?

I'm sure of the engine number, although I know what the overseas vin numbers have no relevance in Australia

not sure about comp but they also have the revised crankshaft & a multi rib pulley on the waterpump so need an alternator change to one with multi rib pulley & belt. as well as the solid lifter head. i got one of these NB6 engines in my NA6 :)

B6T are straightforward swap but can't use their turbo manifold or their distributor. needs the front welsch plug knocked out to fit the MX-5 water fittings.

if your going for an engine swap for a turto car go for the ultimate. a BPD (nicknamed the big turbo engine) from the Familia GTR if you can find a nice one thats not in a perfectly good car. forged motor, sodium filled exhaust valves, pistons with cooling channels, strengthened rods etc etc. engineered by Mazdas Motorsports Engineering Group, they do Mazdas competition engines such as the one in the 787B :D

i also have a BPD engine, in a Familia of course. 156kw at the 4 wheels when it had the aftermarket boost controller in. stock engine & turbo, just with breathing mods.
