IAT Location

Hi all,

Is the location of the IAT sensor for MSPNP critical? I was considering drilling and tapping the inlet manifold just after the thottle body, or should it be installed on the intake side of the TB.

Any thoughts.

Cheers

Dave

Doesn't really matter, but I'd suspect that a sensor mounted into the metal of the manifold would heat soak pretty badly.

Doesn't it state in the instructions where the optimum place to locate it?
I haven't installed mine yet, but I was going to put it as far away from the exhaust as possible.
zoomzoom has his about 30cm from the throttle body.

The instructions recommend mounting after anything that will change the air temp, eg turbo, supercharger, intercooler etc.
My main concern is whether or not the IAT body need to earthed.

Here's a pic of mine seems to work well

I located my IAT before the throttle body on the intercooler pipe after the intercooler, about 30-50mm before the throttle body.

Well it wasn't THAT good, because it made all of you intake manifold pop off and land on the floor! :P

I had my IAT in the base of a metal pod filter and it registered up to 85 degrees or so. It may have been picking up a lot of heat from the metal base of the pod. I think it would be better mounting in a plastic pipe if possible, but I have no idea if it really matters and it may not be possible with a turbo.

Has anyone worked out an ideal location?

I'm tossing up between sticking it in the intake manifold or mounting it in a spacer between the intake manifold and throttle body.

I used to have a turbo installed on Tweety. I had a hard plastic pipe attached to the intake manifold at one end and intercooler at the other end. I drilled a small hole in the plastic pipe about 2.5 cm before the intake manifold and sealed it in with some Selleys Knead IT

This was the position recommended by Flyin Miata for the IAT used with the FM/Link ECU that I had at the time.

Does kneed it bond to PVC?

There's several types of Knead It according to application, so one of them should do the job for you.
