Greetings all,
question 1005 for me

It's for a NA6
Do we have to buy a genuine mazda gearshift boot or can we go aftermarket? This is the rubber thing underneath the imitation leather cover on the gearshift lever. You normally only see it when you go to change the oil in the turret.
TIA

Mazda OEM ones are 30 bucks.
How cheap is aftermarket?

Mekros I believe the genuine product is far more likely to be the better one. Logic- the car makers source only from approved suppliers who have quality systems and performance which meets their standards. Aftermarket suppliers can be anything- from competent to sub standard- dies ( for moulding) may be rough and ready and the moulding does not have to pass stringent tests the way an approved product does. How do the car cos warrant their cars for such long periods?

I've never seen any aftermarket boots, and I can only assume it's because there is not a huge market for them.
My boot was stuffed, so I just cut up a piece of thick vinyl to shape.

There are two boots. They're both probably stuffed. Get the Mazda parts.

Funny just ordered these two boots today off mx5parts.co.uk (theres also a nylon cup that goes on the gearlever base that looks as if its a good thing to replace whilst your there).
Cost approx $70 plus shipping for the lot, I ordered a few other bits too so can't give you relevant shipping costs

Saw that, and bought some.
What was frustrating was I was about to post a group buy for them, but it turns out each one increases the shipping cost by the same amount, so it was all rather pointless.
All up mine came to ₤29.66 which equates to probably about $65 including delivery to Sydney.
I probably should've gone hunting for anything else I wanted to save on the shipping...

Just bought some from mazda two days ago, didn't think they where too badly priced for what they are:
NA01-64-481B - $40.26
M514-17-480A - $46.54
That deal is very cheap from the UK
