To help compliment a fantastic exhaust sound database located here:
Club Roadster - Exhaust sound sample database

I thought i'd start this thread so that our forum members can do the same. It might help forum members consider exhaust systems that was available locally rather than those from America or from Japan.

Please provide details of exhaust (and intake modifications that would effect the audio).

MINX wrote:...As far as I know it was standard SE exhaust. Very quiet from the cabin.
Generally only hear engine and induction noise, not zorst.
I didnt want it noisy, just wanted it to actually sound like a sports car!
We initially changed from resonator back, 2.5in mandrel bent pipes and sports muffler. It was still pretty quiet so we cut out the hotdog completely and replaced with straight pipe.
Its my daily driver so i didnt want it too loud.
Its pretty good now, a little rumble at startup, then quiet idle, and quiet at cruise. But has a nice low rumble when you put the boot in. Really nice.
$370 Exotic Exhausts.
Next step maybe a high flow cat but i like the sound level now.
Not sure about power increase, feels a little better low down.
Sorry about crap Phone/camera quality.

awesome idea Okibi

After I get my hardtop and roll bar this will be the next thing I do. Though I'm quite worried about how it will affect performance, fuel efficiency and finally the sound of it - I don't want a farting and droning car

Ideally I would try and get something that's designed for the car. I've read several posts here and it looks like SMB are the go. But wow $$$

Anyone tried the x-force cat-back system?

Also anyone tried removing the resonators on the stock system?

For reasonably priced stuff I can heartily recommend Flexifit exhaust here in downtown hoonsville (Hoppers Crossing).
Whilst my car is overly loud and not the best advert, Bruce (the owner) did a magic job of fabricating a twin system for my NA8 (from scratch). His attention to detail i was most impressed with. And I am going back there on Tuesday morning to try some different (quieter) mufflers. He fitted what I wanted initially even though he recommeneded against it. But I am glad I tried it out.

I'll let you know tuesday how I went.
Oh, nearly everyone knows what i tighta$$ I am, so you know this guy is affordable

FYI I have a 2.25 XForce extractors mated to a 2.5 XForce hiflow cat then 2.25 pipe into a 2.25 res then a bifurcation then twin 2.25 outlet with 2.25 ressies again, then the tips.

No wonder it is a touch on the loud side  I'm a goose!
If I was to do it again, I woud fit a (possibly Redback) single inlet, triple flow, twin offset outlet muffler. You get a twin system look without the noise..

i've got the SP motorsport/smb cat back, except i don't have the hi flow cat... didn't really need it considering i wasn't chasing every ounce of power from the (and with that hefty price tag too.. woooo)

i'll try and find a camera with a decent microphone to record it.

best purchase i've ever made for the car.. makes a noticeable sound, doesn't sound over the top like skyline..

Nah. I'm a sh!t driver.....I missed a gear

The exhaust has since been modded again (the post had info from June-ish last year) and is
slightly quieter. The way it was, it was painful to cruise at 100. Fun to drive but annoying to cruise in.
Any of the garage boys can vouch for the exhausts *ahem* fruitiness.
Maybe I am old but it is just too fruity for me. :?
