kaaz lsd - anyone got one

Postby 16bit » Tue Apr 15, 2008 5:48 pm

I have found a pretty well priced kaaz basic lsd. its 751 aud (plus delivery i think).

are these any good? i remember hearing different reports.

it will be used for mainly moderate to heavyish street driving with a little track work maybe 3 times a year. the car currently has about 155-165wkw and may go up to about 200 at some point.

any feedback would be much appreciated.

i got one.

1.8 1.5way.

perfectly liveable for day to day driving,
ive done 2 WP track days on it, big improvement from the open diff, I reckon I dropped close to a full second per lap.

well worth the money, i think kaaz make most aftermarket diffs anwyay, i know the mazdaspeed ones are kaaz.

One of the guys here had one in his 200kw 1.6 NA, according to an engineer (whom I respect) the slots that the LSD clutch plates run inside weren't hard enough.

The torque put through the diff made the clutch plates hammer groves into the slots they're meant to slide back and forth in. The clutch plates started catching on the groves hammered into the slots and the diff was unpredictable.

Based on his comments I wouldn't bother using on an MX with forced induction.

Sorry I can't remember if it was a 1.6 or 1.8 kaaz diff. Cory bought it off Ian, he should know.

I have a 1.8 1.5way in my car. In all honstey its too driveable. I bought it expecting it to skip the tyres in carpark situations but its damn smoooth. It will and does lock up everytime i want it too but i was hoping for it to be much tighter. Mind you now that i've given up drifting if it was tight then it'd be another thing that would piss me off about the car.

I've only got 189hp atw and its only done about 4-5k klms but its very smooth, has held up to the several drift days i have done, and locks up when needed.

sounds like if i get more and more power it may get a bit less reliable. i will just have to be a bit careful

I have a KAAZ in my SP and found it to be really good. It took a long time to wear it in (very rattly and skipping) but after a a good track day and an oil change it improved heaps. The only problem I have is the wife complains when it rattles going into the carpark at work

power wise it should be good, alot of the drift boys are using KAAZ lsd's with huge power and no troubles. Depending on how often you drive it hard you'll have to re-build it anywhere from 50k km to 150k km.

Also the 1.8 diff is close to/the same size as the R180 diffs in the silvias so take a look through one of the drift sites on their longevity. Many of the silvia drivers upgrade to the R200 diffs so make sure your looking at the right ones.

Ian's car did a lot of autokharnas, hard launch control starts with super grippy tyres with a setup that was making great torque (for an MX).

The drift0rs tend to use what tyres they can get hold of and whack them on the rears, perhaps the reduced resistance makes a big enough difference.

no not really, amature drifters use sh*t tyres the good drivers with big hp use grippy tyres, even the mid level drifters use descent tyres, although not slicks i dont think. Hell even i used decent new tyres.

Why not send off an email to KAAZ and see what their point of veiw is, and maybe they can garuntee the product to the level of hp/torque you are expecting??

My point is drifters don't use sticky R compounds and do heavy launches fromt a standing start.

They do have a lot of torque and like to kick the clutch, that could be pretty hard on the LSD.

http://www.nengun.com/kaaz/lsd

here.

I got an email from kaaz usa and power wize they were happy to say it would not be an issue. they mentioned that the final ratio is not included - thought that the diff was the final ratio. can someone shed some light on this for me please. thanks!

when your buy an LSD you get the center, when your talking of a diff that usually means your talking about the whole thing housing and everything inside.
The final ratio refers to the ring and pinion gear.

cool so my final ratio will remain at 4.1? is that gear up to the task?
