$344 seems like a bargain!
was that the 100k timing belt change? To do it properly. I'd expect at least around the 800-1200 mark. mates rates probably 600-700 with all parts included. go back about 6mths 3 or 4 of us did the timing belt & water pumps ourselves around about the same time I think we sourced all our parts from UK which was cheaper than locally. I think the minimum was around $320 for all the parts.
You may find that for the $344 he may just have changed the timing belt only. Which is no problem at the moment. There is no way of telling how long a water pump lasts.
My first one lasted 190k km. 2nd water pump lasted 70k km. but they were hard 70k km. in the end I had to redo everything a bit early.
you'll find if you just do the timing belt & your water pump does last the 200k km the engine will run fine but sound really ratty. The runners & tension bearings as wel as the waterpum will start making all sorts of shitty noises. & make the engine sound really crappy.
In my case it made the engine run so much nicer it seemed as though I had a new engine in there.
so if you want it doen properly......expect around 1k
if not a lot. Expect less.
