don't take too much notice of the yanks mate, they expect a rolls royce ride from an open sportscar.........& reading the thread entirely (even though they make my head ache) this guy sounds like he's trolling for controversy

I heard that SP gearboxes were hand assembled by supermodels and any parts that did not meet their strict tolerances were sent to the SE factory.

you will notice it more @ low speeds and windows up.
At least AJ will be used to that then

Speaking of diesel trucks, have the NC owners noticed their gearbox making a rattly noise when idling in neutral on a hot day after a long drive? It sounds just like a diesel. My car was doing it a bit on our trip in January and I was getting a bit worried until I parked next to Kuntry Kuzzin's NC and his car was making the same noise only twice as loud.

It was quite noticable on the NC some distance away from the car. When both cars cooled down they both stopped making the noise

*Checks Daz's address on the old membership database for where his SP is garage to enable stealing of said gearbox!*

It could be the selector forks BD. If you move the selector a little it stops. Strange that it goes away when everything cools down though. I was starting to worry about my gearbox until I heard the noise KK's car was making. Then I wasn't worried as much. I haven't heard my gearbox make the noise since that trip. Maybe it was just the extreme conditions at play.

I haven't heard any sounds from my gearbox, hot or cold.

that post wasn't directed at you garry
as for the question, i've never noticed any excessive noise from ours, hot or cold, what sort of gearbox oil is KK running??.........maybe it gets a bit thin when temps are high??......dunno

Yes, both mine have rattled a bit in neutral (clutch out) but only when fully hot - seems to be the nature of the beast. I can only hear it top down, stereo volume low, in the garage though - agree with Garry that it may be the selectors. The NA8 seemed to do it a little bit as well but it was hard to pick over all the other NA NVH - entirely different tranny anyway.
The occasional growling noise at lowish RPM (below 2000 RPM but not under load) has me puzzled but I still think it is an exhaust harmonic. Red Max doesn't seem to be making that noise as much as Bloo Max did.
Just ran up 5,000km over the first 3 weeks of ownership and Red Max is going like a rocket...........and returned better than 6.7 l/100km in the cruise on the highway top up or down, aircon on or off - love this car
